Rowancroft, Student Residences
Rowancroft, Exeter
Project: The provision of subsidised student accommodation comprising 188 study rooms, 31 studio apartments and fully accessible units. Due for completion August 2009.
Rowancroft is a student accommodation development for the Exeter University campus, the client is Western Challenge part of Spectrum Housing Group. It is 219 self contained bed-sits contained within four three storey blocks, valued at £7.7 million .
As a project with numerous stakeholders our role as main contractor is central. Exeter University, Spectrum Housing, Western Challenge, Penrose Architects and Norman Rourke Pryme all have vested interests delivering the project and driving out cost.
The site itself is accessed off a busy city centre arterial road, with awkward access & egress. Segregation is of critical importance on a site with a 65 week programme on a busy University Campus.
The value engineering element was critical for the client team and Mi-space added significant value in terms of reducing costs prior to the award of the contract. The project is being built to Ecohomes very good.
