Falmouth Tavern

Dracaena View, Falmouth

Project: Affordable housing is one of the most pressing social issues that Cornwall faces as a county. With property prices that are very high by national standards and average incomes that are very low, families find that children who want to leave home find it all but impossible to purchase or rent decent accommodation in the locality. Combine these macro economic pressures with site locations that are very often rural, and with challenging ground conditions, Cornwall is without doubt one of the most difficult parts of the UK for RSL’s, Local Authorities and Contractors to deliver schemes in. Mi-space, with it’s strong historical connections to the South West, is helping to tackle these issues with it partner organisations like Carrick Housing. Falmouth Tavern is a perfect example of this approach and demonstrates that the principles of good design, regeneration and sustainability can be applied even in the most challenging circumstances.

The Falmouth Tavern site is situated approximately half a mile north west from the town centre of Falmouth, a popular town located on a peninsular at the mouth of the river Fal on the south east coast of Cornwall.

The works comprise the design, building regulation approval, all necessary approvals and the construction of 11 dwellings split between a two and half storey / three storey block of apartments (units 1-7) and a two and half storey terrace of 4 units (8-11).

The works also include site roads, footpaths, fencing, screen walling, parking area, landscaping, drainage and service connections.
