Battery Street, Homeless Hostel

Battery Street, Plymouth

Project: The Battery Street Hostel for Signpost Housing is a 46 bed homeless hostel in the Stonehouse area of Plymouth. The contemporary feel of the scheme by Form Design Architects of Plymouth is a welcome addition to an area of Plymouth that has for many years been associated with social deprivation and urban decay. This scheme in no small part will help regenerate the area and deliver support services to the ‘front line' of the community.

The end user for the scheme is the Shekinah Mission which is a South Devon based charity working with socially excluded and marginalised people of all ages. Their core aim is to raise the aspirations of their clients and to enable them to embark on a course of independent living and employment. The mission uses a ‘holistic' approach to service delivery and Battery street will be a cornerstone facility that enables the Mission to continue their current projects including: Drop in centre, night accommodation, education and training and employability programmes.

Mi-space's construction management team are not only ensuring exemplary delivery of the project with a focus of on time on budget zero defects delivery but also providing training opportunities for the Shekinah Mission's service users in the form of work experience. We are also facilitating a tender opportunity for the Mission for the long term cleaning maintenance contract.

Battery Street has also seen the placement of our first Mi-space management trainee from C Group. C Group is the Royal Marines charity that rehabilitates Marines injured in the line of duty.
